Solids

Today our big boy had his first taste of real food! In preparation, we stopped by our local farmers market before his well-visit to see what we could find. There were a few produce vendors, a butcher, a little restaurant, and an organic grocery store, among other things. We browsed around, discussing what we wanted to get for him to try, and settled on a sweet potato (una batata, as we found out). Once we got back home we boiled it, pulled the skin off, and mashed it up with a fork. While we were waiting, we let him try out a sippy cup for the first time. It went as successfully as possible considering a certain silly mama only put an ounce of milk into the cup, so the little mister needed help tipping the cup all the way back so that he could actually get the milk out.

When the sweet potato had cooled, we Skyped with Grandma and Grandpa so that they could get in on the excitement. AJ was more than willing to try it and seemed not to mind the taste, but the texture sure surprised him. I think the pictures will tell the story pretty well:

We'll see what he thinks tomorrow!
