Here's what the boy was up to as of a month ago:
- No longer uses a pacifier! A month or so ago (now two months), he'd started throwing his pacifier across the room after thirty seconds of sucking on it and wouldn't take it again. So, we started not offering it to him at all, and he hasn't asked for it since!
- LOVES to read. This boy could (and does!) read the same book ten times in a row. (I know P.D. Eastman's Go, Dog. Go! by heart now.) I'd say that hands down, reading is his favorite thing to do. No complaints here!
- His love of reading is followed closely by his love of being outside. It was the cutest thing to see him call me into the dining room, point like crazy to his hat, and realize that he wanted me to give him his hat so that he could go play in the backyard. We let him back there by himself now (it's fenced) and watch him from the living room; we like that it gives him a little more space to play how he'd like and to use his imagination.
Our boy did a whole lot of growing and changing over that month. (I wish I had documented a bit more of it before my memory started to fail me. Darn mommy brain!) Fortunately we were able to get some last minute pictures done on the 10th of September. AJ's not too camera-cooperative anymore, but here are the best of what we managed to capture:
These first several shots were taken on Ford Island, where we stayed when we first arrived on Oahu.
"Look, Mama, a stick!" Way better than a silly camera, right?
As is playing in the dirt:
The cheese face:
This is the face we get when we say, "Say cheese, AJ!"
Then we went over to the Fire Department across the street from our housing community. They had done a really awesome job at honoring those who were lost on September 11th:
Notice all the real smiles are happening when he's running? That's because we had to chase him around to get a grin out of him. That's quite a lot of work for a few pictures! Oh well... That grin is definitely worth it!
Happy (belated) 17 months, Andrew James!
